You can get to Breda by plane, train or boat. Or car, I guess.

By plane there is a trio of airports within 40 miles of Breda – Eindhoven, Rotterdam The Hague and Antwerp. All three cities run regular train services directly to Breda. Of the bigger airports, Amsterdam and Brussels are the best options. Amsterdam airport connects into the main train system so catch a train to Rotterdam and then onwards to Breda, taking around 90 minutes in total. There are direct high-speed options but at a price.

From Brussels airport take a train to Brussels Nord, then a train to Roosendaal (towards Amsterdam) and change for a train to Breda. It will take around 110 minutes.

It's certainly within reach via the Eurostar. Simply take the Eurostar to Brussels, and catch a train to Antwerp or Roosendaal, then on to Breda. The whole journey can be done in as little as four hours and 30 minutes.

Or you can rail and sail via the ferry. Harwich to Hook of Holland is a handy overnight sailing. From the Hook, you can grab a shuttle train into Rotterdam, taking half an hour, then change on to one of the regular trains to Breda, again taking half an hour. Rail and sail tickets on Stena Line include your onward train journey in Holland to your final destination and are good, hassle-free value. Do note that your onward train ticket is for shuttle and Inter City services only – you will need to pay extra to use high speed services such as Fyra and Thayls.

If you arrive at the main Breda train station the city is all of a 15 minute walk away.

The default modes of transport in Breda are buses and bikes. On the off chance you've left your bike at home, that leaves buses, but to be honest these largely serve the outskirts of the city so you probably won't need them.

If you do need the bus, the bus station is handily to the right of the railway station exit. You can buy tickets and make enquiries at the bus ticket office, which is inside the train station next door to the train ticket office. Bus routes 11 and 12 go to the Stadskantoor (city hall), on the edge of the centre).
